Purnima is the full moon day in a traditional Hindu calendar and fast and holy bath is performed on the day. In August 2016, the date of Purnima is August 18.
The Purnima in August 2016 is the Shravan Purnima in most regions.
Some Hindu communities observe fast on Purnima day. Special pujas and rituals are performed in many temples.
The day is also the last day in the Shravan month in the traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India.
