Naga Chaturthi and Panchami

Rahu and Ketu are the mysterious shadow planets that represent the North and South nodes of the Moon. The nodes are the points of intersection of the Earths course around the Sun with the Moons course around the Earth.
Rahus influence is illusionary, dissolving and disintegrating. It is also an eccentric, creative, disruptive and revolutionary force.
Ketus influence is regarded as psychic, willful, detaching, penetrating, manipulative and catastrophic.

Together they are seen as the cause behind most psychological disorders, attraction to the dark side of life, incurable diseases, possession by negative entities and sudden negative events. These are of course some of the negative qualities.
Usually the success or failure visited on a person by Rahu or Ketu comes as a complete surprise. The energy and intensity of how the karma unfolds depends on the strength of Rahu and Ketu in a chart. On August 5th and 6th (as per Indian Almanac) are two auspicious times to remedy Rahu and Ketu afflictions.
These days are important and is referred as Naga Chaturthi and Panchami. If have Kala Sarpa Yoga, or are in a Rahu or Ketu major period or your birth star is Aswini, Mrigashrisha, Arudra, Ashlesha, Magha, Swathi, Moola and Satabhisha this is an essential time for you to remedy the malefic effects of these planets.
Mythologically, Rahu and Ketu were originally one being. Their father and mother were both created from the mind of Brahma. Lord Vishnu cut Rahu-Ketu into two halves when he discovered them guised as a God in order to steal some immortal elixir. Rahu being the head is the significator of intelligence. It is not mundane knowledge, but the higher intuitive intelligence. Whereas Rahu represents wisdom and knowledge, Ketu represents liberation which makes Rahu and Ketu the most influential hidden forces in human life. They are not easy to understand as their influences are always off-stage.
Kala Sarpa Yoga:There are several yogas associated with Rahu and Ketu. The most famous is the controversial Kala Sarpa Yoga (Snake yoga) wherein all of the planets are enclosed between Rahu and Ketu in the birth chart so that half of the chart is empty. Going clockwise around a chart, if Rahu comes first, followed by all of the planet with Ketu last, this is known as a Solar Kala Sarpa Yoga. Likewise, if when going clockwise around a chart and Ketu is first encountered, followed by all of the planets and Rahu at the end, it is called as a Lunar Kala Sarpa Yoga. A standard text says this weakens the chart. Yet many world famous leaders have had this yoga. What this yoga shows is the development of certain strengths at the expense of others. The result is the success that is achieved is lacking in some way and often does not have staying power. If you have Kala Sarpa Yoga in your chart, the house and sign where Rahu and Ketu are located have a much stronger role in your chart and life. One standard remedy is to consciously develop the area in your life where there are no planets.

Vastu Shastra

Vastu Shastra is a very old Indian science of Architecture. Its knowledge enables us to get benefits of mental peace, health, wealth etc. and make our life happy.
In ancient times the human habitats were generally constructed according to the rules of Vastu Shastra and people lived happily.
As times advanced, we started ignoring our old culture and tradition. No wonder the people experienced all kinds of troubles. This science, after propounding the rules of construction, goes to prove that by constructing properly our buildings, villages, towns, cities, shops, offices, factories and industries we can make ourselves prosperous.
The Vastu Shastra is founded upon the laws of nature. The equilibrium, significance of it can very well be noted from the movements of motorcars, ships, airoplaines, trains. The Buses are so accurately balanced that even deflation in any one of the tyres, can cause a serious accident if it is running at a high speed. Similarly, when a building is constructed without observing the rules of Vastu Shastra, various calamities, diseases and accidents take place. This is the eternal rule of nature and it has no place for any logic, doubt or debate.
Energy Flow
The directions of East and West are important as far as obtaining the energy from the sun is concerned. The importance of the directions of the North and the South lies in the flow of magnetic waves which flows from North Pole to South Pole. Therefore southward portion of every building should be higher than the northward portion.
Importance of Five Elements
Earth
The selection of site for building construction is very important. Besides, congenial environment, greenery and availability of water, we should also see if the land is suitable for building construction.
Water
As far as the flow of domestic water is concerned, it should be borne in mind and that such water should be drained out in North - East. Wells, tubewells, swimming pools etc. should all be in the North-East. The water from the toilets and bathrooms, too, should be drained out in the North- East. The North-East direction is always auspicious and suitable for water.
Fire
The direction of Fire is South-East. The Kitchen, fireplace, geysers etc. should be placed only in this direction. Alternatively these could be placed in North-West, because it is at 180 degree to South-East.
Air
The air should enter the building from North -East. All the openings and media for air entry such as doors, windows, ventilators coolers, air-conditioners, verandahs, balconies etc. should be in this directions.
Space
The open sky influences greatly. We can get the effect of terrestrial-energies uninterruptedly. But the buildings prove a barrier to the effects of open sky.

Lucky Stone / Gems : Pearl

It is connected with planet Moon. The metal with which it associates is silver. It rules over blood, Heart, stomach and influences the mind of an individual. It can be worn by those whose ascendant is Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. It is to be worn in ring finger.
A pearl ring or pendant is worn to strengthen Moon in a horoscope and may help to alleviate conditions caused by a weak placement. Pearl has an extremely calming influence on the mind and increases feelings of love, and compassion for other people. The pearl may help peace of mind and enable the practice of spiritual meditations with greater concentration. As with all our Vedic gems, from red coral to chrysoberyl cat's eye jewelry, your pearl will be carefully chosen by a skilled gemologist.
On the physical side, pearl may help balance bodily fluids and reduce heat in the body. The pearl can calm the nerves thereby decreasing feelings of anxiety. It is good for women in general and can help fertility, as well as help a woman deal with the stresses of motherhood.
Pearls are said in the Vedas to come from eight sources. Seven of them are extremely rare and not to be found on earth in this day and age. They are "sky pearls" (from the sky), "cobra pearls" (develops within the hood of a cobra aged over one hundred years), "bamboo pearls" (found in the hollow of bamboo), "hog pearls" (found in the head of a hog), "elephantine pearls" (originates in the temple of a particular breed of elephant), "conch pearls" (found in a conch shell), and "fish pearls" (created in the womb of a fish).
All these have different powers and healing potencies attributed to them, but we have not known anyone possessing any of them.
The source of pearls with which we are all familiar are those produced by a mollusk (oyster). It starts with a tiny irritation within the shell of the mollusk, possibly a piece of sand or other foreign matter. The oyster, as a protective measure, begins to coat this irritation with two substances, nacre and conchiolin. The layers are coated one after the other, with the greatest part being the nacre. This is a "natural" pearl, meaning man has not induced the oyster to create a pearl. Most natural pearls have been long ago taken from the seas to the point that they are very rarely found today.
Cultured pearls are the only pearls commercially available to the public. This is the process by which man induces the oyster to create a pearl. A piece of tissue is implanted within the oyster along with a round bead of "mother-of-pearl", cut from the shell. This bead is then coated (in the same way as with a "natural" pearl) with subsequent layers of nacre and conchiolin. After a certain time period the pearls are "harvested".
Generally this is done on pearl "farms", in the far-east or the south Pacific. The south Pacific produces the largest pearls in white, silver and black colors. Other sources include the Persian Gulf, South America, India and Sri Lanka. Cultured pearls may be used to strengthen an afflicted Moon, but one natural pearl, worn either in a ring or pendant, is more effective than many strands of cultured pearls.
The only foolproof way of knowing if the pearl is cultured, or not, is by X-raying the pearl, which will reveal the nucleus, if there is one. If the pearl is drilled, it can be seen under magnification easily but, for healing purposes, PEARLS SHOULD NOT BE DRILLED. They are usually set in silver, so that the pearl comes into contact with the skin.

The Planets

The Indian Astrology distinguishes the destiny and traits of an individual that are associated with the positions of the planets and the date, time and place of birth. The Indian astrology considers the movement of two luminaries namely the Sun and the Moon, five major planets (Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Venus and Jupiter) and the two nodal points of the Moon i.e Rahu and Ketu.

Sun: Ruler of all the planets, Sun is commonly called Surya and Aditya and believed to be the source of vitality. The planets move around the Sun and are dependent on its energy for existence of life forms. Sun brings success, intellect, wisdom, fame and wealth and is the ruler of zodiac sign Leo. Good placement of Sun can give rise to fame in the area, field, or even the whole world. If ill-placed in the horoscope it is an indication of physical as well as possible, mental or emotional problems, pessimistic attitude, humiliation at the hands of others and impoverished conditions of life.

Moon: The Moon represents the mind indicating an individual's thoughts, feelings, expressions etc. Moon is beneficial to those born in ascending moon cycle and disastrous to those born in descending moon sign. The Moon also possesses dominance over the waters and liquids within our bodies. The Moon is responsible for growth, fertility and conception. The Moon rules Cancer Zodiac sign and is strong there in its own sign. It is powerful or exalted, in Taurus and fallen, or debilitated, in Scorpio.

The zodiacs Jupiter, Sun and Mars are the Moon's natural friends.

Jupiter: Also known as Brahaspati or Guru, Jupiter rules both Moon and Sun controlling the movement of the planets. Responsible for luck and fortune, the planet brings success, fortune and fame. The largest planet in the solar system, Jupiter it is associated with expansion, growth and and opportunity. The position of Jupiter in ones' chart serves as an indicator of one's faith, confidence, buoyancy, higher mind, wisdom, optimism and generosity. Jupiter's action is to expand, preserve and increase on all levels. A well placed Jupiter is associated with the spiritual, philosophical and intellectual realms. The ill placement of Jupiter might lead to exaggeration, delusions of grandeur and depletion of energies. Jupiter is the ruler of the fire sign Sagittarius.

Rahu: Actually an imaginary planet, Rahu is instrumental in strengthening the power and can convert enemies into friends. It is popularly called the Planet of Success. It is a node positioned at the meeting point of earth's trajectory around the Sun and the Moon's trajectory around the Earth. Rahu is believed to represent the head of the demon. When Rahu, Sun and Moon are in the same zodiacal longitude, solar eclipse takes place. Being a shudra graha, it rules over thieves, witches, magicians, venom and poison, snakes and thorny bushes, jails and isolated places, unhabitated places, hypnotists etc. As Rahu is not a real planet, it does not rule any zodiac sign.

Ketu: Ketu is an imaginary planet or a node that is positioned where the earth's trajectory around the Sun and the Moon's trajectory around the Earth meet. It is believed to represent the tail of demon. Both Rahu and Ketu are the parts of the same danava(demon) but are 180 degree apart. When Ketu, Sun and Moon lie in the same zodiacal longitude lunar eclipse takes place. Those ruled by Ketu, are secret adversaries and relates to people in pharmaceuticals industries, doctors and astrologers. Both imaginary nodes are the mysterious forces and show karmic and spiritual influences in the birth chart. Ketu also does not rule any zodiac sign since it is not a real planet.

Venus: Also known as Shukra, Venus governs beauty, wealth, romance, passion, music. Venus is about pleasure- love, romance and harmony in our emotional attachments, marriages, friendships and other unions. Venus is content to spread happiness and tenderness, all the while teaching us how to love and appreciate others and the things that we possess. While Mars represents the youthful male in our solar system, Venus is the charming princess. Venus rules over eyes, nose, chin, throat, sexual organs, kidneys, bladder etc. A badly placed Venus indicates dysfunction of these parts. Venus is inextricably linked to refinement, culture and grace. Having feminine energy, Venus rules both Taurus and Libra.

Mars: Sun being the king of solar system, Mars is the commander. Mars indicates martial powers, martial arts and influences energy, drive, administrative spirits and leadership abilities. Both Sun and Mars produce heat, difference being Sun has a life preserving heat and the explosive heat generated by Mars might endanger the lives. Mars rules over the bone marrow and generation of red blood corpuscles, human blood, and the disease resistant power of human body. Mars rules Aries, openly aggressive, and Scorpio, secretive in nature.

Mercury: Mercury is a neutral planet that changes according to its placement in signs and houses. It is the nearest planet to Sun and thus is restless, fast changing and fickle in nature. It rules education, writers, businessman, intestines, lungs and nervous system. Both Jupiter and Mercury represent human intelligence, Mercury indicates an immature side of intelligence as compared to the more mature one of Jupiter. It rules all means of communication and intermediation. Mercury rules over the arms, ear hearing system, and the nervous system. It is a dual natured planet and owns the dual natured signs, Virgo and Gemini.

Saturn: A cold and dry planet, Saturn rules over the hard parts of human body - bones, teeth, knees and ears and indicates recurring health problems. Saturn makes its subjects work in secondary positions, doing dull routine and ordinary jobs. Various professionals like: Also historians, archaeologists, covators of museums, workers in refrigeration factories etc. are ruled by Saturn. Saturn commands to get to hard work. The planet gives huge importance to discipline and responsibility. Saturn with masculine energy rules Capricorn and Aquarius.

Conclusion: The planetary positions have great significance in the lives of all of us. The considerable influence of these planets plays an important role in our lives. All planets have distinct characteristics, both positive and negative, which help in controlling or governing the movements of our lives.

Total Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 1st, 2008

The second solar eclipse of 2008 is a total eclipse of the Sun, at the New Moon in Leo on August 1, a week before the start of the Beijing Olympic Games.

This eclipse will be visible in northern Canada and in parts of China.
A solar eclipse is a New Moon that occurs when the Moon is on the same latitude as the Earth and the Sun. The Moon blocks out the sunlight as it passes between them and casts a shadow over the earth’s surface.
The Eclipse and You
Eclipses highlight areas in life that need transforming; changes that occur now will make you feel happier, healthier and more emotionally content. Here’s what to expect depending on your zodiac sign:
Aries (Mar21-Apr20) Deepening bonds will be felt in your closest relationships and this will make you feel more confident and secure. If you are a writer, poet or artist and you’ve suffered a mental block lately you will start to feel more creatively inspired.
Taurus (Apr21-May21) This is a great time for new starts within your home. For some Taureans there may be pleasing news about an addition to the family. You might see some changes, over the months ahead, on the domestic scene or there may be a change of address.
Gemini (May22-June21) It won’t take a lot of effort to get other people to go along with your ideas. You will find it interesting to watch thoughts being turned into reality. Expect to get involved with new events and activities in your community.
Cancer (June22-July23) Your ideas on spending, saving and making money cannot be faulted now. You have a serious streak and this will be coming to the fore. Your money situation could take on a new and more positive direction.
Leo (July24-Aug23) This is not a time to follow anyone else’s lead. Whatever your goals, you must pursue the path that is right for you. Where there have been delays and frustrations all past barriers will be lifted. You will get the chance to push ahead with a special project or personal goal.
Virgo (Aug24-Sept23) Life will be quieter, less hectic and more peaceful. This may come about because commitments of the past are ended and your responsibilities are decreasing. Be sure to relax into this lull; don’t feel you have to be busy or sociable for the sake of it.
Libra (Sept24-Oct23) The months ahead are good for new starts in friendship and group relationships. Be open to new suggestions. You might meet people who will put you on the right path to furthering your professional and personal interests.
Scorpio (Oct24-Nov22) The chance to take on a leadership role or do something you’ve never done before should be welcomed. Ignore any doubts or fears that you aren’t good enough. It’s a good time for making changes in your career; put your ideas to others now.
Sagittarius (Nov23-Dec21) You might sign up for an educational or training course. Links with people from faraway could take you on a journey; this will be an enlightening experience. Some long-awaited news will finally reach you.
Capricorn (Dec22-Jan20) Expect to be signing some legally binding contracts. You might soon see an improvement in your financial situation. Insurance and pension matters need attention.
Aquarius (Jan21-Feb19) Partnerships and close emotional relationships will be quieter and calmer than they were at the start of the year. Disagreements and upsets that have arisen will fall into their proper perspective.
Pisces (Feb20-Mar20) At work, a change in bosses or new work routines are likely. You could get mixed up in a scheme which brings you into contact with new people. High levels of energy enhance physical health and boost your self-esteem.

Sunday, July 27th

Sunday, July 27th is Aadi Krithika and is very sacred for the Planetary Overlord of Mars, Muruga. The Krithika star falling during the Tamil month of Aadi or Kataka is a very powerful day for Lord Muruga as the Sun is in Cancer and the Moon is aligned with the star Krithika in the Plaedian constellation (Aries-Taurus).
Lord Muruga, whose name literally means the beautiful one, represents beauty and perfection. He has the 'Six battle houses' called the Aru Padai Veedu. Considered to be the perfect version of Lord Siva, Muruga is one of the most powerful gods of our times. Spiritually, the six houses represent six chakras. Praying to Muruga on this day will eliminate negative forces, and blesses real estate ventures, medicinal or engineering professions, competitiveness and self esteem.
Muruga is Lord of Yoga, creating yoga in the age just prior to the current yuga and the keeper of the mystical keys to the awakening of the kundalini and its ascension through the chakras. There are six sacred temples for Lord Muruga in Tamilnadu, South India. With the exception of one temple on the seashore, all other temples are situated on hills. Why do we Chant God's name?

By chanting the holy name of God, you associate with God. God is absolute. He's not different from His name. So when you chant God's name means you immediately become in touch with God. And by chanting more and more, your association becomes more and more intimate. Then everything is disclosed to you. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita. Tesam satata-yuktanam bhajatampriti-purvakam, dadami buddhi-yogam tam yena mam upayanti te. If you keep in touch with God with faith and love, then God is within yourself, He'll give you intelligence how you can go back to home, back to God. There are many different processes oryoga system to be in touch with God, but for the people in thisage, this is the easiest method, to be in touch with God simply by chanting His holy name.

Lucky Gem / Stone : Diamond

It is connected with planet Venus. The metal it is associated with is platinum/silver. It rules over throat, eyes kidney and reproductive system. It can be worn by those whose ascendant is Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Capricorn and Aquarius. It is worn in middle finger.
Diamond is the gemstone recommended for Venus. It increases artistic and creative abilities. It can also lead toward love and devotion in relationships and may also increase passion and sexual desires. Physically, it strengthens the reproductive system, and is said to aid in the treatment of chronic diseases. White, or colorless, sapphire is a good substitute for diamond and may be used in the same manner.
Major sources of diamonds are Africa (many countries there are producers), Australia, Russia, India, Indonesia, Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana. White sapphires are mostly found in Sri Lanka.
Individuals should be careful of wearing a diamond or white sapphire that has any dark flaws or fractures. If a gem with such imperfections is worn it will cause havoc in a person's life, rather than the beneficial influences being sought. Diamonds should weigh at least 1 carat, but 1.5 to 2 is better. White sapphire should be at least 2-3 carats.

Lucky Gem / Stone : Coral

It is connected with planet Mars. The metal with which it associates is gold/copper. It rules over ear, nose, gall bladder, uterous, rectum and red bone marrow. It can be worn by those whose ascendant is Cancer, Leo, scorpio, sagittarus and Pisces. It should be worn in ring finger.
Coral is made of deposits of calcium and secretions from the invertebrate "coral polyp". The deposits are built up in a structure resembling plants with branches. This creature generally lives in calm water and builds the corals in depths from 20 feet to as deep as 1000 feet. Red corals are this color due to iron oxide within them and are generally found in depths of 100 to 150 feet. The shallower the water the darker the color of coral and, obviously, the deeper the water the lighter the shades of color found.
To strengthen Mars, wearing a red coral stone (best), or strand of beads is recommended. The deeper red it is in color the more potency it will have.
The wearing of this stone will increase vitality, courage and ability to work on endeavors through to their fruition. Physically it is said to strengthen the immune system, the muscles of the body and the male reproductive system.
The main sources of red coral were the Mediterranean, Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Africa, Australia, Taiwan and Italy. We have also been receiving some red corals from Tibet, which suggests that at one time the sea came up to this mountainous country. Red jasper may be used as a substitute for red coral, having similar properties but in a lesser degree

Vedas - The Revealed Wisdom

SANSKRIT LITERATURE
Sanskrit literature can be classified under six orthodox heads and four secular heads. The six orthodox sections form the authoritative scriptures of the Hindus. The four secular sections embody the latter developments in classical Sanskrit literature.
The six scriptures are: (i) Srutis, (ii) Smritis, (iii) Itihasas, (iv) Puranas, (v) Agamas and (vi) Darsanas.
The four secular writings are: (i) Subhashitas, (ii) Kavyas, (iii) Natakas and (iv) Alankaras.
VEDA-THE REVEALED WISDOM
The Srutis are called the Vedas, or the Amnaya. The Hindus have received their religion through revelation, the Vedas. These are direct intuitional revelations and are held to be Apaurusheya or entirely superhuman, without any author in particular. The Veda is the glorious pride of the Hindus, nay, of the whole world!
The term Veda comes from the root 'Vid', to know. The word Veda means knowledge. When it is applied to scripture, it signifies a book of knowledge. The Vedas are the foundational scriptures of the Hindus. The Veda is the source of the other five sets of scriptures, why, even of the secular and the materialistic. The Veda is the storehouse of Indian wisdom and is a memorable glory which man can never forget till eternity.
The Vedas are the eternal truths revealed by God to the great ancient Rishis of India. The word Rishi means a Seer, from dris, to see. He is the Mantra-Drashta, seer of Mantra or thought. The thought was not his own. The Rishis saw the truths or heard them. Therefore, the Vedas are what are heard (Sruti). The Rishi did not write. He did not create it out of his mind. He was the seer of thought which existed already. He was only the spiritual discoverer of the thought. He is not the inventor of the Veda.

Lucky Gem / Stone : Emerald

It is connected with planet Mercury. The metal it is associated with is gold. It rules over central nervous system, lungs and skin. It can be worn by those whose ascendant is Taurus, Gemini, Leo and Virgo. It is to be worn in little finger on a wednesday.
Emerald jewelry is said to strengthen the nerves and, on the physical side, to purify the blood. Emeralds increase the flow of positive life-energy and are used by healers to further increase their own abilities to heal the body and mind. Like hessonite and ruby rings, emerald rings and pendants should be designed so the gem is in contact with the body.
Emerald is also recommended for strengthening the planet Mercury, which increases the powers of communication.
Emeralds generally have many imperfections and most jewelers would say that these flaws insure a "natural" stone. For healing purposes even emeralds should be fairly "clear" to the eye. Some imperfections are not harmful nor impede the stone’s vibration and an experienced planetary gemologist knows which are or aren’t permissible.
Sources of emerald are South America, most notably Colombia and Brazil, Africa (Zambian and Tanzanian are best), India, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt and Russia.

The Guru Purnima - Celebrating the Guru

"Guru is Shiva sans his three eyes, Vishnu sans his four arms Brahma sans his four heads. He is parama Shiva himself in human form"~ Brahmanda Puran
Guru is the God, say the scriptures. Indeed, the 'guru' in Vedic tradition is looked upon as one no less than a God. 'Guru' is a honorific designation of a preceptor as defined and explained variously in the scriptures and ancient literary works including epics. The English word 'guru' has its etymological origin in the Sanskrit term.
Hindus attach paramount importance to spiritual gurus. Gurus are often equated with God and always regarded as a link between the individual and the Immortal. Just as the moon shines by reflecting the light of the sun, and glorifies it, all disciples can dazzle like the moon by gaining from their Gurus.
What is Guru Purnima?
The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Vyasa. All Hindus are indebted to this ancient saint who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavata. Vyasa even taught Dattatreya, who is regarded as the Guru of Gurus.
Significance of Guru Purnima. On this day, all spiritual aspirants and devotees worship Vyasa in honor of his divine personage and all disciples perform a 'puja' of their respective spiritual preceptor or 'Gurudevs'.
This day is of deep significance to the farmers, for it heralds the setting in of the much-needed rains, as the advent of cool showers usher in fresh life in the fields. It is a good time to begin your spiritual lessons. Traditionally, spiritual seekers commence to intensify their spiritual 'sadhana' from this day.
The period 'Chaturmas' ("four months") begins from this day. In the past, wandering spiritual masters and their disciples used to settle down at a place to study and discourse on the Brahma Sutras composed by Vyasa, and engage themselves in Vedantic discussions.

Lucky Gem / Stone :Blue Sapphire

It is connected with planet Saturn. The metal it is associated with is silver. It rules over teeth, feet, bones, knees, nerves and nails. It can be worn by those whose ascendant is Taurus, Libra, virgo, gemini and Capricorn.
Royal blue sapphire is the gemstone recommended for strengthening Saturn. It can be beneficial to career or work and promote feelings of self-contentment or detachment. It is also said to counteract envy and give protection while traveling and from mental anxieties. Physically, it is said to strengthen the bones and cleanse the blood. Spiritually, it is an aid in meditation and it increases psychic abilities.
The best sources for natural, unheated sapphires are Sri Lanka and India. Other sources for blue sapphires are Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, U.S. (Montana), and Australia. Kashmir is also a source of the finest and most expensive blue sapphires in the world, but they are extremely rare nowadays.

The concept of the Goddess

The concept of the Goddess is both intriguing and interesting. To tell you the truth nothing can happen without Her.
The human female is a surrogate of the Goddess. No man can succeed without Her energy. That's why there is the saying that 'A successful man always has a woman behind him'.
The Goddess is real. She is invisible to the naked eye and belongs to heaven. She visits the earth plane periodically and stays at certain temples.
Who brought Her over into the earth plane? The Yogis and Siddhas did.
The technology of the Siddhas and the Yogis is quite scientific. Knowing that the Goddess can help the human beings quite miraculously, the Siddhas brought the Goddess over to certain energy spots and enshrined them through esoteric processes. The Goddess stays here in the form of a rock or statue that retains her energy. It is important to identify those shrines and establish your connection with your Goddess. Establishing a connection with a Goddess is an intricate and sophisticated process. It is unfortunate that the Goddess worship has fallen in the hands of charlatans and the gullible public – both unconsciously continuing the tradition. If you don't do the worship properly it is a waste of money and time. Nevertheless, one must remember that it is after the Kali Yuga (the dark age) and corrupt tendencies that are part of the time period.
The whole world is under the influence of 3 Shaktis or Goddesses. They are Ichcha Shakti, Kriya Shakti and Gnana Shakti. Every human being has these 3 powers. Ichcha Shakti is the will power, the power of desire or motivation which relates to the Mind. Kriya Shakti is the power of action, the ability to act for the fulfillment of the desire that relates to physical body and Gnana Shakti Represents the power of knowledge, the capacity to know and recognize, which relates to the soul (Atma).

Something extraordinary is going to happen on 18th July 2008 Full moon

"Grace of God takes the form of the Guru. Guru is God himself"
There are 12 full moons in a year and every one of them is important. On the full moon day, the Siddhas who are enlightened masters, come down to the earth plane to help spiritual aspirants to evolve. Of the twelve full moons, one stands out as very special. It is the Full Moon of the Guru (Gurupurnima) that occurs in the Sanskrit month Ashada (July-August). Gurupurnima is the beginning of the Spiritual New Year.
This year the Full Moon of the Guru falls on July 18th.
The Full Moon of the Guru is the most important Full Moon in the year. Spiritual aspirants wait for this Full Moon to receive the blessings of the guru. Spiritual transmission from the guru to the disciple can happen naturally on the night of the Full Moon. This is the reason why the disciples flock to the guru during Guru Purnima to access the spiritual blessings of our preceptors and spiritual masters who are both living and past.
In yoga the moon is associated with the mind. It is also the belief with the ancient Greeks who associated the Moon with the activities of the mind. The term "lunacy" owes its origin to the Greek concept of the link between the mind and the Moon. Yoga is profound in its understanding of the Moon/mind connection. The Moons position to the earth influences not only the human mind, but also every happening on the surface of the earth. The Moon represents the right brain. Activation of the right brain brings ecstasy. The term "honeymoon" is highly symbolic. According to yoga, honey or nectar, oozes out from the right brain giving the experience of spiritual bliss. This happens primarily during the Full Moon time.
Guru Purnima Offerings :
During Guru Poornima special fire ritual is performed seeking the blessings of the 7 rishis who were the original seers of the Vedas. These rishis are known as the saptarishi, sapta means seven and they are - Athri, Bhrughu, Kutsa, Vasishta, Gautama, Kasyapa, Aangirasa, as per legend they are the mind-borne sons of Brahma the creator.
It is very important to be in the physical presence of the Guru on this day. Getting the Guru's blessings on this day will protect the devotees from all kinds of problems in life. Guru Purnima is also called Vyasa Purnima, i.e., the Full Moon of Vyasa. Vyasa is the one who wrote the Mahabharata and compiled the Vedas. Vyasa was born on this Full Moon Day in the month of Ashada.

What is Sade Satti?

Sade Satti is a very dreadful word for the common masses. When, Saturn transits through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd house from the natal moon (where one's Moon is placed in the birth chart), this is termed Sade satti. Saturn takes 2 ½ years to pass through each sign (30 years to make one round of the zodiac), its passing through 3 signs make it 7 ½ years. Sade means "half" and Satti translates to "seven" and hence the name Sade Satti.
There is a general belief that Sade Satti period brings dissatisfaction, disappointments, depression, differences, disputes, disharmony and undesirable results ,but actually this is not the case. Saturn does not always behave this way and it really depends on individual's chart. For example if Saturn is acting as a yoga karaka, there is no way it can cause all that problems in native's life. Most of the people go through 2-3 periods of Sade Satti in their life time, 4 periods are very rare. It reappears after every 25 years from when it first finished.
Sade Satti Influence
While it is true that during this 7-1/2 years Saturn transit period people do experience some tensions and troubles, it is nothing to be scared about. Even while giving some troubles and tensions, it does not deny you success. As a matter of fact a number of people prosper to new heights during this period. Sade satti is about doing one's obligatory duties without considering likes and dislikes. One who does this forever is least effected by Sade Satti and in fact gains during this period. However if anyone is arrogant, egoistic, unsympathetic, and non-hard working then he is targeted during the person's Sade Satti and can make him go through a lot of hardships.
Three Cycles of Sade Satti
First cycle of Sade-sati generally affects close relatives more than the native. The 2nd cycle influences the domestic front as well as the business front, and the 3rd cycle affects children, family, health, and physical suffering or may even indicate the death of the native.
First Cycle
In the first cycle, when Saturn transits 12th house from moon for 2.5 years, the evil results are felt more by the parents and near relations of the native than the native himself. There could be some eye related problems to people who abuse this wonderful gift e.g. watching too much TV by sitting close to it. Saturn from this position throws its 3rd aspect on the 2nd house, which may affect the financial position of the native by increasing the wasteful expenditure. Because of 7th aspect on 6th house it can cause some debt. And finally because of 10th aspect on 9th house, it can bring down the general fortune of the native and can also cause setbacks to the father of native.
Second Cycle
During the Second Cycle when Saturn transits first house from moon for 2.5 years, it affects the native himself in domestic (7th aspect on 7th house and professional fields(10th aspect on 10th house). Being in the fist house it denotes ill health for the native. It can result in Weak finances, many miseries, loss of health, separation from family, loss of friends, increase in unnecessary expenditure, failure in undertakings, humiliation, loss of self confidence and self respect. One must keep in mind that these results can occur only when Saturn is acting as a pure malefic in the native's chart as explained above. Less than 5% of the natives going through Sade Satti will actually feel all these results. For most of the people there will be mixed results only.
Third Cycle
During the Third Cycle when Saturn transits in the 2nd house from Moon, It affects one's health, children and may even cause death if it come in late life .During this transit (8th house aspect). It may cause Loss of money, heavy expenditure, loss of health, unhappy domestic life (aspect on 4th house), mental distress, loss of wealth, increase in enemies, physical distress, quarrels with relatives and friends, lots of grief, all sorts of sufferings. You can check which cycle(if at all) you are going throgh by clicking here.
Remedies for Sade Satti
Remedies should not be applied without taking into consideration how exactly the Sade Satti is going to affect you. If Saturn is trying to correct some of the wrong doings of your life e.g. trying to make you work very hard by creating obstacles, then it should probably be left untouched as its doing it for your own betterment. However if you feel that your life is really going through hell, you must consult a competent astrologer before applying any remedy. Daily reciting of Hanuman Chalisa can be done without any problem as it helps the native in all cases. Similarly wearing an Iron ring made out of horse shoe in your middle finger of right hand, offering copper and sesame oil to Saturn every Saturday are other harmless activities. Wearing any stone during this period is an absolute No No, unless the astrologer has really done his analysis
Conclusion
Saturn, which according to Hindu mythology is the son of Sun God, is not always a bad planet. Proper care must be given to complete analysis of this planet before concluding that Sade Satti can cause problems in one's life.

Lord Siva - one of the main Deities of Hinduism

Shiva (Sanskrit: Auspicious One), or Siva, is one of the main Deities of Hinduism, worshipped as the paramount lord by the Saivite sects of India. Shiva is one of the most complex gods of India, embodying seemingly contradictory qualities. He is the destroyer and the restorer, the great ascetic and the symbol of sensuality, the benevolent herdsman of souls and the wrathful avenger.
Shiva was originally known as Rudra, a minor deity addressed only three times in the Rig Veda. He gained importance after absorbing some of the characteristics of an earlier fertility god and became Shiva, part of the trinity, or trimurti, with Vishnu and Brahma.

The Cult of Shiva
Shaivism, or Saivism, is one of the most popular Hindu cults. It embraces many theological practices, although all agree on three principles: pati. or God; pasu, or individual soul; and pasa, or bonds that confine the soul to earthly existence. The aim of Shaivites is to rid their souls of bondage and achieve shivata, the "nature of Shiva". They achieve this through ascetic practices and penances, with an emphasis on yoga and renunciation. Many Shaivites become wandering sadhus, or hold men. Shiavites mark their foreheads with three horizontal marks representing the three aspects of Shiva.
Shiva wears a snake coiled around his upper arms and neck symbolizing the power he has over the most deadly of creatures. Snakes are also used to symbolize the Hindu dogma of reincarnation. Their natural process of molting or shedding their skin is symbolic of the human souls transmigration of bodies from one life to another.
Thiruvalangadu, north of Madras, is associated with the dance contest between Shiva and his consort in the form of Kali. According to legend, Shiva danced vigorously, and to subdue Kali, threw up his leg in the rhythm of the dance. Being a lady, Kali could not repeat this feat and stood dismayed. This dance and the subjugation of Kali, are described in the hymns of the female saint-poet Karaikkal Ammai.
Shiva's female consort and wife is Parvati; because of his generosity and reverence towards Parvati, Shiva is considered an ideal role model for a husband. The divine couple together with their sons - the six-headed Skanda and the elephant headed Shiva - reside on Mount Kailasa in the Himalayas.
He often holds a trident, which represents the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. It is also said to represent the threefold qualities of nature: creation, preservation and destruction, although preservation is usually attributed to Vishnu.
As the destroyer Shiva is dark and terrible, encircled with serpents and a crown of skulls.
In the pictures to the right and left Shiva wears sacred Rudraksha beads, perhaps a reference to his earlier name Rudra.
The crescent moon Shiva wears on his crown, besides being a symbol of Kama the goddess of nightly love, also represents the bull, Nandi, a fertility symbol.
Shiva holds a skull that represents samsara, the cycle of life, death and rebirth. Samsara is a central belief in Hinduism. Shiva himself also represents this complete cycle because he is Mahakala the Lord of Time, destroying and creating all things.
His guardian is Nandi (the white bull), whose statue can often be seen watching over the main shrine. The bull is said to embody sexual energy, fertility. Riding on its back, Shiva is in control of these impulses.
Shiva is represented in a variety of forms. One such form is as a lingam. The ovoid shape is a representation of the absolute perfection of Lord Shiva - if that which is beyond form had to be given form, the lingam would be the closest form to the mystical experience of the absolute perfection of Shiva.

July 8 and 9 - worhipping Lord Siva

July 8 and 9 are very significant days that you do not want to miss. This is the day when Lord Siva creates a new code of conduct for righteous living in his form as Nataraj, the Dancing Siva. There are only 4 or 5 days throughout the entire year when this ritual is performed for Nataraj at Chidambaram temple. During the Tamil month of Ani (June - July) Lord Siva performs the dance of ecstacy and on this day by worhipping Lord Siva and surrending at His feet helps one to wipe out the sins.
Chidambaram is one of the most ancient and most celebrated of shrines in India. It is of great religious as well as historic and cultural significance. Chidambaram is associated with Nataraja, or Siva in his Ananda Tandava pose (the Cosmic Dance of bliss) in the cosmic golden hall and the hall of consciousness. Siva is also worshipped in the "formless form" of the Chidambara Rahasyam, while the temple is known for its Akasa Lingam, an embodiment of Siva as the formless Space. The word "Koyil" or temple in the Vedic tradition refers to none other than the Chidambaram Nataraja temple.
The dance of bliss, or the Ananda Tandavam of Siva is said to symbolize the five divine acts (pancha krityas) of creation, sustenance, dissolution, concealment and bestowment of grace.
This is also a great time to start wearing the Rudraksha beads which are known to clean all your sins. The beads are said to bring abundance and prosperity to the person wearing it. Rudraksha Beads represents Lord Siva, the symbol of auspiciousness. Lord Siva gives spiritual evolution. This mala helps in strengthening the balance between spirituality and materiality in one's life. It also bestows good health and peace.
The Rudraksha mala when worn helps with blood pressure and cardiac problems. This mala is also used at the time of meditation. This rudraksha mala is stung in silver and the beads are covered with silver caps.
Nataraj, the dancing form of Lord Shiva, is a symbolic synthesis of the most important aspects of Hinduism. The term 'Nataraj' means 'King of Dancers' (Sanskrit nata = dance; raja = king). The upper right hand holds a small drum. This signifies the origination of sound, Creation. The upper left hand contains fire symbolizes destruction. The two contradictory concepts in the upper hands show the counterpoise of creation and destruction. The second right hand shows the Abhaya sign meaning fearlessness, bestowing protection from both evil and ignorance to those who follow the righteousness or justice. The second left hand points towards the raised foot which signifies upliftment and salvation. The dwarf on which Nataraja dances is the demon and this symbolises Shiva's victory over ignorance. As the King of Dance, Nataraja, Shiva performs the cosmic dance, the dance in which the universe is created, maintained, and resolved, Shiva's long, matted tresses, usually piled up in a knot, loosen during the dance and crash into the heavenly bodies destroying them competely. The surrounding flames represent the manifestation of the Universe. The snake swirling around his waist is kundalini, the divine force that is to reside within everything. The stoic face of Shiva represents his neutrality, thus being in balance.

Mantras for the Nine Planets

Vedic astrology is unique in that it gives us many ways to work with the negative planetary influences in a chart. There are forms of ceremonial worship (pujas and yagnas), gemstones, color therapy, and several other popular methods to mitigate the karmas in our life. But by far the easiest, most inexpensive, and powerful way to work with the planets in our chart is through the use of mantras.

When we do mantra repetition to a planet, we soothe and heal all the difficult energies of that planet in our life. We also encourage the positive energies from that same planet to flow toward us.

Om nava grahan puujaa ( The Worship of the Nine Planets)

Each section contains both a long and short mantra to each planet. The short form may be used by itself for mantra repetition, using a mala (rosary) of 108 beads.
Intone the RED Sanskrit sections aloud. Offering candles, incense, and flowers increases the potency of each mantra
